Happy Anniversary

Chicago guests Joanne and Ernie made a one-night stop at The Hexagon House as part of a week-long road trip in northern Michigan. They are celebrating their anniversary today as they depart for destinations in Traverse City, Petoskey and Mackinaw City. Happy anniversary, Joanne and Ernie!

Time to Start Spring Clean-up

Amy decided she had had enough. She was going to start some yard work even though it was 35 degrees and dismal. Lucy decided to keep her company thinking that maybe mom would dig up a tennis ball somewhere in the leaves. Pentwater is starting to show signs of life. Store owners are getting their shops prepared for the coming season. The birds are getting more vocal. Even some buds here and there. Our little village is waking up from a long winter's nap.

Congratulations to Katie and Derek who were married Saturday at the Hexagon House. They are a really sweet couple and they just bubbled over with happiness for the two days they spent with us. They are the fifth couple to be married so far this year and each marriage is a really special experience for Amy and me. We wish you all the best Derek and Katie!

Happy Easter

Happy Easter from Pentwater. This photo was taken at the Lighthouse Lutheran Church on the north side of Pentwater.

Bread of Life Food Pantry

We dropped off the food we gathered from the Big Give party today. Susan and Mike Castor from the Pentwater Toy Box and Air-Fun Kites are pictured here along with Amy. The food pantry shelves were getting a little bare so this happened at a good time for them. They were pleased with how much we were able to bring them. Always a good feeling to help someone out.

Oprah's Big Give Comes To Pentwater

Inspired by the TV show Oprah's Big Give, Amy along with Mike and Susan Castor from the Pentwater Toy Box decided to have a Big Give party at the Hexagon House. We invited friends from town, guests Kathy and Steve from Zeeland were good sports and joined us and Hexagon House owners Ed and Dave were able to be there too. We gathered in the living room to watch the show together and eat some great snacks; but best of all we collected food supplies to donate to the Bread of Life Food Bank in Hart. That's us in the parlor afterward with a big pile of food to donate. It was a great feeling.

Official End of Christmas?

We figure Christmas isn't officially over at the Hexagon House until the last decoration is down; and today I was finally able to get on the roof to take the lights off the lighthouse cupola. Amy happened to be near with a camera, so I waved hello to all of you. Sunny and 40 degrees today - spring is well on its way.

Economic Stimulus

Most of us will be receiving an Economic Stimulus Payment Notice over the next few days. Amy and I received ours yesterday. It was a welcome sight and much better received than our usual assortment of junk mail and bills. The letter started out by saying, "Dear Taxpayer, we are pleased to inform you." These words are not often found in the same sentence. I bet the letter writer liked being able to craft something positive for a change. Have you considered what you might use this extra cash for? Most folks are making a list I'll bet. Why not consider stopping by the Hexagon House for a getaway?

Michigan Blue Magazine Features Pentwater

We picked up the March/April issue of Michigan Blue magazine today. Pentwater is featured this month and they really did a nice job writing about the village. The cover is a photo of Gardener's Folly, which is one of our stores in town. We wish The Hexagon House could have been on the front but we're a little biased. If you've never seen this magazine, we suggest you find a copy. It's nicely done and looks good just laying around the house.

Rebecca Pokes Through

We had enough snow this year to bury Rebecca. With the warm-up of the last few days she is starting to get back to her normal self.

Charles Mears Beach

Lucy and I stopped by the Lake Michigan shore today to see how the thawing process was going. It appears mother nature is doing her job but it's still ice quite a ways out. Lucy was pretty disappointed that she couldn't romp in the surf yet. She doesn't know her geography very well and complained that there were no penguins to chase either. We could hear the ice groaning and cracking. It won't be long and this Pentwater beach will be filled with sun-bathers and sand castle makers.

The Return of the Manistee Knitters

Our knitting group friends from Manistee Michigan returned for their third annual Hexagon House girlfriend getaway this weekend. These self-confessed "drinkers with a knitting problem" are always great to have around the house. There's always lots to eat, lots to drink, and lots of laughter when they take over the house. It's amazing to watch them knit their creations while they're here. They made some tasty Sangria too! They plan to return next year and Amy and I are already looking forward to it.

Amy's been busy

When you make your next visit to the Hexagon House, you'll notice the beds have a new look. Amy's been busy through the winter shopping for new bed coverings and pillows. I find it amazing how a comforter can really change the feel of a room. The Russell Room has a new beautiful blue print comforter that compliments the wallpaper really well. This room took on a more relaxed feel as soon as Amy put it on the bed. We hope our guests feel the same as we do.

We decided today to offer a customer appreciation special for the months of March and April. We're offering a buy one get one free. Or two nights for the price of one if you prefer to look at it that way. We've already had some takers.
